Dismissal of trans* discrimination in quidditch
In Hannover haben sich im Januar 2018 neun Personen von unserem Team, den Hannover Nifflern, abgespalten. Diese Mehrheit wollte sich weder mit Trans*feindlichkeit noch mit Sexismus im Team auseinandersetzen und zwar trotz Einforderung durch die diskriminierten Personen!
Nach einem Treffen, bei dem wir versucht haben, das Thema anzugehen und vorhandene Konflikte zu bearbeiten, haben diese 9 Personen ohne vorherige Ankündigung das Team Swooping Evils gegründet. Hierzu wurden keine Niffler eingeladen, die sich für eine Auseinandersetzung ausgesprochen haben und Genderinklusivität auch in der Praxis einbringen wollten. Dadurch sind bei den Nifflern so wenig Menschen übrig geblieben, dass wir zunächst nicht mehr trainieren konnten.
Wir haben uns für Unterstützung in erster Linie an den Deutschen Quidditchbund und auch an unseren Verein gewandt, aber keine dieser Strukturen hat uns Rückhalt gegeben. Ganz im Gegensatz: Es wurde deutlich, dass die Strukturen im DQB völlig unzureichend sind, um der Problematik gerecht zu werden, sowohl inhaltlich als auch auf den konkreten Prozess bezogen (siehe verlinkte PDF-Datei für mehr Details). So wurde die offizielle Beschwerde mit einem Vierzeiler und dem Verweis auf “euer Wort gegen deren” abgelehnt. Durch das trans*feindliche und sexistische Verhalten der Swooping Evils sind wir letztlich aus dem DQB und dem Verein gedrängt worden.
Was passiert ist, ist für uns schmerzhaft und wir sind immer wieder fassungslos. Nur eine Person von uns ist weiter aktiv im Quidditch. Für den Rest bietet Quidditch keine Perspektive mehr, wie wir daran teilhaben könnten. Wir finden es wichtig, diese Geschehnisse in der Community transparent zu machen. Wir wollen, dass darüber geredet wird und dass Ausgrenzung und Diskriminierungserlebnisse nicht nur für betroffene Personen sichtbar sind. Genderinklusivität im Quidditch ist eine radikale Zielsetzung bezogen auf aktuelle gesellschaftliche Verhältnisse. Wir können das nicht nur auf dem Papier festsetzen und hoffen, dass dies zu einer genderinklusiven Praxis führt. Genderinklusivität bleibt eine leere Phrase, wenn Menschen, die das einfordern keinen Rückhalt in ihren eigenen Teams, im Verband oder in der Community haben. Damit sich das ändert, brauchen wir mehr Auseinandersetzung, Bildung und zuverlässige Support-Strukturen.

Dismissal of trans* discrimination in quidditch
In january 2018 in Hanover nine people split off of our team, the Hannover Niffler. This majority did not want to deal with trans* discrimination, or sexism within the team although the discriminated persons demanded it!
After a meeting in which we tried to approach the topic and work on existing conflicts, these 9 people founded the team Swooping Evils without prior notice. No Nifflers were invited, who argued in favour of these reflections and wanted to implement gender inclusive practice. So few Niffler were left, that we were not able train at first.
We primarily asked the German Quidditch Association (DQB) and also our club (SG74) for support, but none of these organisation were backing us up. On the contrary: It became clear that the structures within the DQB are totally insufficient for coping with those problems, both content wise and in relation to the process (for more details see the pdf file linked). Eventually the official complaint has been declined with a four-liner and a hint at “your word against theirs”. In the end we have been ousted of the DQB and our club due to the trans* discriminatory and sexist behaviour of the Swooping Evils.
This process has been very painful for us and we have been shocked again and again. Only one of us will keep on playing quidditch. The rest of us will not go on, due to the lack of a positive perspective on this sport. We think it is important to make this process public within the community. We want people to discuss what has happened. We want that exclusion and discrimination are not only visible for people affected by it. The inclusion of all genders in quidditch is a radical goal concerning current societal circumstances. We cannot just stipulate this on paper and hope that this will lead to an inclusive practice. The inclusion of all genders will stay an empty phrase, if people who demand it, will not be backed up in their own teams, in the association or in the community. In order for this to change we need more discussion, education and reliable support systems.
